This illustration began as a rough pencil sketch, which was refined in Corel Painter to add more detail. Still using Painter, I did a preliminary color test, and then began the task of coloring the black and white image. Then using various patterns and textures in Adobe Photoshop, I began experimenting with the character's wardrobe, trying on plaids, prints, and paisleys, giving my clients a variety to choose from. I then finished the cover by adding an art deco wallpaper, a clock, and I created individual textures for each coat hanging on the rack. I also used a unique approach to the floor. I scanned a pencil sketch of a section of four tiles, then, making it a seamless texture, mapped it to a 3D plane in Bryce to create a hybrid pencil sketch/3D rendered floor.
